I believe Royalsampath's bike was like a young terrier pup - not house-trained or given firm instructions as to acceptable behavior. I like to see the front wheel "tap on the spot" on tickover, the ease with which it glides on to the centre stand and especially, the long, slow swing that always fires it up. On single carriageway roads, 60mph is the limit and is well within the bike's stride. It was not designed to sit on endless ribbons of tarmac at a constant 70 mph and I therefore avoid dual carriageways and motorways. It sits firmly on the road and is comfortable over distances. I bought a Bullet because I know I can maintain it.
Big singles of the 50's and 60's vibrate as the rev range rises-fixings inevitably loosen off and should be checked periodically. A Royal Enfield Bullet is all about understanding - if it leaks oil persistently, is unreliable and generally unsatisfactory it is because it's not getting the correct attention, even being abused.
